摘要

The next generation network (NGN) is not only a new network architecture, it also means a new service architecture, which includes agile and flexible services, similar to the ones used in the internet. One of the most important consequences is that operators must face the challenge of managing as efficiently as possible the entire service life cycle of very different types of services (long/short tail, massive/exclusive, etc). To efficiently face this challenge it is necessary to automate service production, in a similar way to an assembly line for other industries, and any management solution has to take into account this issue. Furthermore, this solution has to fit those differential aspects of the NGN that make it different from the traditional business model. Through an efficient transformation of the operational support system (OSS) infrastructure, operators will find a weapon to position themselves at a competitive advantage. This paper analyses the main NGN implications for network and services operators and proposes a new generation operational software and systems (NGOSS) based OSS architecture.
