Multi-weft fully elastic model for finite element analysis of the beat-up process

A finite element model for the analysis of a beat-up process is proposed. One of the main purposes of the analysis is to find the beat-up force required for a plain weave of some given density. The proposed weave model includes one warp and two wefts. Both the warp and wefts are modeled as elastic bodies. Compared to the previous models in the literature, the proposed model simulates the real beat-up process most precisely. Almost all the parameters contributing to the beat-up process, including basic warp tension, shed angle, Young's moduli of warp and wefts and friction between the yarns, are included in the model. Three steps for the analysis of the proposed model using typical FE software are suggested. The proposed method is applied to an example problem to show a limitation of the rigid weft model frequently used in literature. Also, additional example problems are demonstrated to show the usefulness of our proposed method of analysis.
