Properties of needlepunched nonwoven fabrics that are used for automotive applications have been investigated by blending thermoplastic fibers under various needling parameters. Higher tensile and bursting strength were achieved by introducing lower modulus nylon 6,6 fibers into the PET substrate. Increased bursting strength and toughness facilitate the molding process to produce parts such as trunk liners. With increasing needlepunch density and depth of penetration, fabric strength increased; however, elongation decreased. Fabric strength was measured both at the ambient and heated condition.
