One of the greatest attractions of science for me is the possibility of meeting extraordinary people who think and act in a way that makes them stand out from the crowd and rise above the mundanities of everyday life. Such meetings do not happen every day or even at every conference-but I immediately sensed my good fortune when I first met Professor Tsutomu Masujima in May 2009.
