摘要

Small towns in Poland - particularly those with an economic mono-structure - have slowly but surely taken the role of catalysts for development. This has been partly as a result of their much faster transition through change than larger cities with multi-purpose centres. In Poland, there are over nine hundred towns and cities. Of these, five hundred are small towns with a population under 10,000. As in the case of most European urban centres, most Polish towns and cities can trace their origins to the 12th and 14th centuries, though their development in the 20th century differed considerably from that of other European urban enclaves.
