Ring scotomas are difficult for patients to understand and may cause them to lose hope as their function declines even though they have been told that they have good visual acuity. They also present challenges for vision rehabilitation practitioners because they do not respond to many of the standard interventions that are used for discrete scotomas. However, with the proper understanding and approach, intervention can improve patients' functioning and quality of life.
