摘要

This volume on Continental Margin Volcanism contains a series of papers on topics that were of great interest to our colleague Jim Luhr. Many of the authors were collaborators and/or friends of Jim, and with this volume we honor him as a scientist, a leader in volcanology, but also as a dedicated father and good friend. Jim started his distinguished career as an undergraduate at the University of Illinois (Urbana). His undergraduate advisor told him to apply at UC Berkeley to work with Ian Carmichael, because 'you are so good in thermodynamics'. He was accepted in Berkeley as a PhD student and worked under the tutelage of Ian, and became a successful scientist early in his career.
