Have you ever thought of weaving pile fabric? The chances are probably not! Maybe you think you need a second back beam, or other specialist equipment, or that it can be made only by experienced weavers. Perhaps the absence of books or courses on the subject means you have never given the idea any thought. In fact simple pile fabric weaving -created by pulling loops out of the weft -can be woven on a two-shaft loom set up for plain weave. I discovered this when I learned felpa gallega, a traditional pile fabric technique, from Elmerinda Espin, an eighty year old folk weaver of Galicia, northwest Spain.
