My small flock of Bowmont sheep originate from a research institute in Scotland. The breeding programme started about sixteen years ago, funded partly by the EU, with the aim of producing an ultra fine woolled sheep which would be as fine, or finer than Merino but tough enough to survive in the Scottish hill country. The idea was to provide an alternative high income stream for struggling Scottish hill farmers.
