John always knows that when I utter the immortal words 'wouldn't it be good if...!' he needs to put on his engineer's hat and design some piece of equipment for me. On this particular occasion, just before Christmas, he actually answered the phone and then passed the call to me saying 'I'll start thinking now!' When I took the call I understood why! The caller was from the Tudor Kitchens at Hampton Court Palace, where they were planning a completely new wardrobe for the interpreters, to be ready by April 2006 for the arrival of Henry VIII. I was commissioned to supply the dyed cloth to be used in the new costumes, which had to be dyed in exactly the same way as would have been done in the sixteenth century. John needed his engineer's hat because, whilst we already have a dyebath for cloth, this order required something extra, we needed to be able to deal with cloth up to 60in wide.
