摘要

In 2004 I had the opportunity to go on a textile study tour of Rajasthan and Gujarat in North West India. It had been a long-held ambition since seeing colourful animal harnesses from India and Pakistan at the exhibition of animal regalia held at Surrey Institute of Art & Design, Farnham, in 1989. I began to explore ply-split braiding, used for camel girths and animal trappings, following a workshop with Peter Collingwood, held in conjunction with the show, and have been engrossed by the technique ever since. On my journey, I hoped to gain an understanding of the culture and background from which the vibrant textiles and animal regalia had come.
