摘要

There are lots of breeds of sheep out there, so what is so special about the Ronnie? The simple answer is lots of things! Those of you who know sheep, know that in general their food supply stays still, so they graze during the day and ruminate at night. However, Ronnies on the island do not have access to their food supplies 24 hours a day. The seaweed is washed up with the tide and dumped at high water twice a day. The Ronnies have changed their behaviour to ruminate while the tide is coming in, and feed after high water. The time of the high tide varies with the moon, so they change their feeding times accordingly. In addition, if the amount of their favourite seaweed (Laminaria spp) coming ashore is reduced, they will change their behaviours again and feed on other species.
