摘要

Hydrophobization of Fagus sylvatica veneers was carried out by grafting a hydrophobic compound (lauryl gallate) by means of an enzymatic treatment with a commercial laccase. Two parameters related to hydrophobization (time of water absorption and contact angle of water with the wood surface) were increased only when laccase was present in wood treatments. FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) and XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy) analysis demonstrated that the bond between the lauryl gallate and the wood was stable, even after the organic extraction of wood. It was confirmed that the use of a procedure with laccase and hydrophobic phenol compounds can improve the hydrophobicity of wood surface in a permanent way.
