摘要

The Si_3N_4/BN nanocomposite powders were prepared via the reaction of α-Si_3N_4 powder, H_3BO_3, and CO(NH_2)_2 in a nitrogen gas, and then the machinable Si_3N_4/BN composites having high mechanical properties were fabricated by hot-pressing. SEM micrographs and XRD analysis of the composites show that the BN existing with the h-BN phase is evenly dispersed in the β-Si_3N_4 matrix and the β-Si_3N_4 grain growth is inhibited by the h-BN phase. The composites have excellent machinability because the h-BN is easily cleaved along its weak cell boundaries and the weak interfaces existing between h-BN and Si_3N_4 grains.
