The effect of CoO addition to 0.65Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.35PbTiO3, (65PMN-35PT) piezoclectric ceramics was examined. Adding CoO causes densification during sin- tering at lower temperatures. As for TEM-EDX analysis, Co is observed at the triple point of the 65PMN-35PT grains when sintered at 1100 deg C. As for 1200 deg C sintering, however, Co diffuses into 65PMN-35PT grains, and only Mg remains at the triple point of the grains. From the Tc measurement, Tc gradually decreased depending on the sintering temperature in the case of CoO added samples. These results indicate the possible replacement of Mg by Co. The addition of CoO also slightly reduced the dielectric permittivity at room temperature, but increased Qm.
