Unidirectional carbon-fibre/epoxy laminar composites are interleaved by tough polymer films, and a combination of films and chopped Kevlar fibres. Two different polymer films are used, they are Hysol~® thermoset epoxy film and PEEA thermoplastic film. Kevlar fibres of 5-7 mm in length are used in 1.8 mg/cm~2 weight-to-area ratio. A combination of film/Kevlar/film is explored in the present study. The quasi-static Mode-Ⅰ delamination toughness is then measured to compare the effectiveness of films, and film/Kevlar fibre combination. Delamination mechanisms associated with the interleaving methods are discussed to explain experimental results.
