Mechanical properties and microstructure of metal matrix composites (MMC's) base aluminum and reinforced with Ni_3Al intermetallics are evaluated in this work. The processing of these materials is conventional powder metallurgy (P-M) followed by hot extrusion. Two different intermetallics, with the same chemical composition were used: one obtained through mechanical alloying (using a high energy attrition mill) and other obtained through rapid solidification technology (gas atoming).
