摘要

Textile waste is a serious environmental issue, with around 92 million tonnes sent to landfill each year. To create a more sustainable industry it would be best to reuse or recycle garments, however a major barrier to effective recycling is the large variety of materials used in apparel and how they are blended. Synthetic and natural blends in particular require separation. For example, polyester must be split from cotton and wool to be able to be melted and reformed into polyester yarn, yet this is a major technical and complex challenge.
