Resentment of China's dominance as the world's leading supplier of consumer goods has been a fixed element of the US political scene for several years, and now the mood seems to be spreading to Europe. In a plenary session on trade yesterday, a majority in the European Parliament decided the EU must act together to tackle unfair competition from China and restore balanced trade. They said the first step was to get a clear picture of China's penetration of EU economies and called for the creation of a body to monitor China's investment in EU firms and purchases of European sovereign debt.
