It is evident from the above report that some fundamental principles are involved in the interplay between the input parameters (critical yarn, machine and process variables) and the control variables (loop length, peak needle force and robbing back) of a loop formation system, which remain to be discovered, but manifest themselves in the peculiarities of the system's character, observed in isolation. This calls for a more detailed and thorough investigation of loop formation. The scope of the model for the loop formation mechanism also needs to be broadened by incorporating bending properties of yarn as well as the effect of sinker movement. It is felt that an attempt to optimise the knitting process is liable to yield questionable results if the system is not understood in its entirety at the outset. The same would also apply when devising intricate mechanisms for controlling loop length. Similarly, the introduction of a qualitative change in the process of loop formation (e.g. the compensatory action between needles and sinkers) would also be associated with uncertainty in terms of the field of application.
