It is impossible to imagine many gar-ment sectors which do not use elastic textiles containing elastane because they offer the consumer crucial advantages regarding fashion, comfort and easy-care properties. The requirements and end-use sectors will become noticeably more varied and may overlap in some instances. It is therefore essential that the whole textile chain works on new and modified yarn properties (fibre producers), the properties of textile materials (knitters, weavers and finishers) and garments (garment manufacturers). Following the optimization of the use of bare and covered elastane yarns several years ago in various clothing sectors, there are good prospects for modified elastane yarns in the production of new kinds of materials with special properties. The ecological ideas and discussions of recent years must be included in this development just as much as the technological aspects in the further development of textile machines.
