For some industries, standards can be a matter of life and death. No more so than in healthcare, where there are over 2,000 health standards administered by thousands of organizations out- side the NHS, and covering everything from medical equipment to patient data. Here, standards ensure continuity and consistency of care, and in some cases are a legal requirement to trade in the EU, for example the CE marking of medical devices.
