In the present study performance of driver section of a free-piston shock tunnel is in- vestigated, which is newly installed in our laboratory for high enthalpy flow study. Characteristics of compression tube are calculated under isentropic assumption. The calculated results agree not well with experimental results. So, the effective pressure of high pressure tube is considered to modify the calculated results. The modified results show good agreements with experiments.
