The purpose of this research work is to develop a practical method of daylighting calculation using Mean Sky for computer-aided daylighting prediction. Mean Sky was developed by H.Nakamura as a standard sky model to predict daylight illuminance in interiors. Sky luminance of Mean Sky is given in tabular form. A daylighting calculation method using Mean Sky in Japan was also proposed for windows but no for skylights. It applies numerical tables of necessary data based on Mean Sky to calculation, and therefore complicates the procedure in practice. In order to make the calculations simple and practical, this research work modifies Mean Sky in tabular form and converts it into mathematical expression. Subsequently, the necessary data for the calculations are also modified and expressed mathematically. Moreover, this research work develops a new method of daylighting calculation for skylights. This paper presents the detailed procedure for formulating Mean sky. The formulation was done by performing regression analyses repeatedly. The equation was derived as function of azimuth and altitude of the sky element. The average difference was 0.970/100 between the values in the original table and those calculated by the equation with the standard deviation of 0.748/100.
