As you'll see from our Emergency Services Network (ESN) article later in the issue, mission-critical communications technology is currently at what might be considered a point of flux. Regarding the UK in particular, for instance, this is exemplified by ESN itself, which will ultimately replace the incumbent Airwave public safety narrowband (TETRA) system. This kind of work is also being echoed around the world, meanwhile, with similar mission-critical broadband roll-outs currently taking place in the US, Finland, France and elsewhere.
