The results of the 2015 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects Queensland awards demonstrate that a new level in the maturity of the profession has been achieved in Queensland over the past few years. This is remarkable given the challenges the industry has had to face, with a volatile economy, the changing political landscape and an uncertain policy framework in areas that influence the natural and built environments. Many of this year's submissions were projects that have clearly involved our profession in looking at the big picture for sites and communities. They have engaged the profession in city-making moves and regional planning of significant value in assisting the community's preparedness for the Future. While our profession has clearly been affected by constricted budgets and the slowing of project implementation, there has been a flourishing of work at the strategic level. Landscape architects have been working both alongside and within local government, in particular, to develop guiding documents, policy and plans that reinforce the vision and guide the future development of the state.
