October 2014 will be remembered as a big month for landscape architecture in Australia - many new initiatives have been launched and new directions announced. Central to current initiatives are the goals of raising the profile of landscape architecture and elevating the status of the profession. It is critical for landscape architects to step out of the shade and into the sunlight. Our profession needs to be more visible, have a greater public profile and become more relevant and influential. Our opinions need to be heard at a time when the community (and government) is seeking to create cities and landscapes that are more healthy, resilient and productive. This is what landscape architects are good at doing.
