The influential 1969 exhibition, Earth Art, helped define the emerging land art movement. The original exhibition, at Cornell's Andrew Dickson White Museum of Art and curated by Willoughby Sharp, brought together artists including Walter De Maria, Jan Dibbets, Hans Haacke, Dennis Oppenheim, and Robert Smithson. To mark this anniversary, Cornell's Johnson Art Museum has installed Beyond Earth Art in and around the museum to reconsider its legacy and examine the continued influence of the land art movement on contemporary issues of landscape representation. The show presents exhibition materials and works by the original Earth Art artists as well as pieces by those who have been working in similar contexts over the past several decades.
