The subtitle of this edited collection suggests that it will deal with language testing in Europe, but in fact it is restricted to issues surrounding the use of language tests and tests ofrnknowledge of society (KoS) to screen migrants into Europe and for permanent residence and citizenship. This is a very timely volume, as national regulations are developing almost daily, and policies and practices need careful and critical examination. The contributors are mainly researchers into multilingualism, sociolinguistics and language and identity, and only two are language testers.
