OPP degrades easily and quickly in biological sewage treatment plants or in the aquatic environment. OPP samples in vaseline up to 2,000ppm and also finished leathers preserved with Preventol U-Tec G in standard recipes were dermatologically tested with human volunteers. Positive or improbable reactions could not be found. There is no irritating effect on the skin at the tested concentrations. Additionally, studies show that residues of Preventol U-Tec G, an OPP containing product which is used for leather intermediate preservation, still helps to protect finished leather against microbiological decay.
