Maybe it was the tropical ocean breeze or the scent of flower leis in the air. Perhaps it was the view from the IEEE-sponsored New Members Welcome Reception/Luau at the historic Royal Hawaiian Hotel on Waikiki Beach (Figures 1) Figure 2, but Patricia Watkins could not imagined a more perfect first-time attendee experience as this year's ASEE (American Society for Engineering Education Engineering) ELD (Engineering Libraries Division) conference in Honolulu, Hawaii, 24-27 June 2007. Presentation noles and Powerpoint slides are available from ASEE (http://eld.lib.ucdavis.edu/conf/ conf07.php). Because Hawaii is a tourist destination, the streets of Waikiki were teeming with families and people enjoying the Trade Winds that keep the extreme heat of this island tolerable. Kathleen Fleming noted the heavy traffic in Honolulu. As a city of about one million people and it seemed just about everyone has a car. The traffic congestion led to long delays traveling by car and even on foot, waiting for a streetlight to change at about every block.
