Filmmakers Lewis and Pickering here use archival footage and new interviews to profile journalist, grassroots leader, and civil rights pioneer Anne Braden (1924-2006), who spent over 60 years defending and protesting for social justice in the American South. Braden herself tells the bulk of her inspiring story, with fellow activists Cornel West, Angela Davis, and others discussing her impact as a fearless, tireless campaigner. The film covers Braden's entire life, from her conservative Louisville, KY, upbringing to her early years as a journalist, which saw her social and political views shift from conservative to radically progressive, and through her life as an outspoken advocate and fighter for justice before, during, and after the civil rights movement, until her 2006 death.
