Most owners think that looking for water in the fuel is a simple case of a few squirts in the engine sump cup, a casual glance for indications of water as bubbles or separation of water from fuel. That done, simply toss the contents on the ramp and offyou go is sufficient to do the job for spotting water in fuel. Unfortunately the statistics on annual accidents of GA aircraft do not bear out the simplicity of this issue, as there are numerous accidents that tie directly to water entrained in avgas or auto fuel used in aircraft, and the accident rate where this is a contributing issue is not declining.
