Afellow called the other day with a complaint about his recently overhauled engine. The complaint is one we hear quite often. It has to do with the engine seeming a bit rough (especially at idle) after the overhaul-or at least, not as smooth as it was before the overhaul.rnWe told the fellow what we tell everyone who is buying a major overhaul for the first time, namely: Don't necessarily expect your engine to be as silky smooth after an overhaul as it was before.rnThat is, notwithstanding the conversion to a custom cam such as the RAM cam, which is designed to improve the idle of such engines as the rough idling TCM IO-520 and 550. The harsh fact is, a tired engine is usually a smooth engine.
