I have a 1956 Cessna 182 with 2400 hours total time. The engine was overhauled at 1200 hours in 1965, and then three cylinders were topped 10 years later. The plane has flown only about 350 hours in the 14 years I have owned it.rnLately the oil usage has gone from 3 hours per quart to a quart an hour. Since I have begun to fly more frequently in pursuit of an instrument rating I decided it's time to at least do a top overhaul. Since I have an extensive automotive mechanics background I have decided to do all the work myself with supervision where required.
