From time to time we get mail from mechanics who feel we are trying to tell owners of certificated aircraft how to do all their own maintenance and bypass the mechanic other than to get a sign-off to have a repair made "legal." Nothing could be further from the truth. While it is possible for a non-A & P owner to do virtually everything the A & P can do, it is only under very specific conditions. The most important of these conditions is that the owner must be under the supervision of a mechanic that is himself qualified and knowledgeable to do the repair.
