What direction should the scarf joint on a Cessna 172 point? It's a valid question and can make a performance difference. My question concerns the exhaust pipes on the Cessna 172 with the Continental O-300 engine. In what direction should the exhaust stack exit face? That is to say, in which direction is the scarf cut at the stack's termination supposed to point?rnI've seen some facing forward and others facing to the sides or even aft. Is there a correct way to install these pipes, and how far should they extend through the cowl?
