In Dec 2004, we covered one shop's successful method of sealing crankcase halves, because sometimes it can be difficult to get a leak-proof seal. One IA wrote to us stating that there are no "alternative" ways to seal case halves as far as the FARs are concerned. He feels there is the factory specified way and no other is acceptable—at least with regard to engines in certificated aircraft. Actually, there is more than one factory way so we will cover all.
