Iam writing with a problem I'm con-fronting on a parked and not very well stored L-19 with a Lycoming O-540 in it. I hope disaster hasn't occurred already and that I can get this A/C back in the air without damage. The aircraft is a remanufactured Bird Dog by the Ector Aircraft Company and is an Ector Super mountaineer; one of about seven built. Up until Sept. 2001, it was flown regularly and used by me to fly banners during the summer and fall, every year. There were about 800 hours on the engine after a pretty good rebuild. On 9/11/2001 my banner towing business was abnormally ended, as you may know. I flew the L-19 some during fall 2001 to just fly and then I had to tie it down for winter 2002. It was tied down outside from a lack of money―no banners flew during 2001 football season, thus, no money. Michigan has lots of snow and rain during the winter. The aircraft was checked in the spring by an A&P friend of mine and seemed to be okay. He flew it home to the airport he works from and flew and maintained it all summer.
