I just bought my first plane, a 1965 172F model. Most of my time is in Skyhawks but this is the first Continental I've flown. I have several questions regarding its operation. The plane has less than 2800 hours TT, and looking at the logbooks, the plane has had excellent care. The engine has 1400 SMOH with about 75 hours since a top overhaul with new cylinders, pistons, rings, etc. Compressions are all in the upper 70s. The engine is an O-300-DI just had the annual completed including a timing check. First question: What rpm should I get on the take off run? I show about 2220 initially with 2350 late in the take off run. It seems maybe I should get more rpm as the plane is a bit sluggish on takeoff roll.
