This question is on my 1975 Cardinal RG w/ a Lycoming IO-360, and RSA 5 AD1 fuel injection system. We are about to go into annual and our A&P is adamant that the fuel system (servo thru injectors) needs to be overhauled. This is estimated to take 6 hours of his time to remove and replace and 'about' $1700/1 week of external shop dollars/time. The system was last overhauled when this O/H engine was hung on the bird 1000 hours, six years ago. This is compared to the manufacturer's recommendation of 2000 hrs (engine TBO) or 6 years, whichever comes first. This A&P did the annual two years ago, (The fuel screen has not been cleaned at least since the last annual, 130 hrs.) The symptoms are: 1. ~200 rpm drop and slightly rough at full rich; 1800 rpm mag check (slightly better when warmer or leaner). 2.300 rpm rise during idle cut-off shutdown. 3. 100 rpm rise at ~2000 rpm during ground leaning. 4. The plugs look like it is running rich. 5. The idle mixture adjustment is at the limit of its travel.
