While we have been over the requirements for CAR 3 certified aircraft with the conclusion after several talks with the FAA, that they feel CAR 3 aircraft were certified without such a detailed requirement as a formal ICA battery check, and, while a it's a good idea, especially if the aircraft is flown IFR, it's not considered a mandatory requirement. The FAA feels that in your CAR 3 certified airplane there is no change in the annual requirements. This is despite the fact that the battery makers instructions for continued airworthiness specify a capacity check schedule irrespective of CAR 3 or Part 23 certified airplanes. CAR 3 airplanes have minimal redundancy-one battery and normally, one alternator. This is all part of the puzzle we call the FARs-sometimes easy, sometimes a nightmare to deal with, but often subject to interpretation.
