It is a sure bet that all things mechanical will eventually wear out or in some way become in need of service. The nose strut on most single engine Cessna aircraft are similar in construction and eventually the upper O-ring seal leaks due to age. The upper O-ring seal contains the air (nitrogen) charge in the strut and rarely contacts any fluid, which would serve to keep it flexible enough to retain the necessary sealing properties. Because of the location of the seal it rarely if ever gets replaced during the course of a normal strut re-seal job.
