I have been a faithful reader for many years. You guys have saved me big bucks over those years. I currently own a 1972 AA-5 with 150 SMOH, a Consolidated (Kelly Aerospace) factory-overhauled carb, with about 15 hours of auto gas use on the STC and new (overhauled) carburetor. This aircraft has three hours since the annual, and since the plugs were gone over. Yesterday, I was doing circuits at my home field at 2,200 feet MSL. The OAT was 64 degrees F., cumulus at 5,500 feet MSL, and lots of moisture in the air. One tank was filled with recently purchased auto fuel and the other tank was filled with 100LL purchased from the same aircraft fuel dealer. All four fuel sumps were properly drained and checked before flight.
