A new major repair and alteration data approval order 8300.16 has come out dated April 2014. This order provides guidance applicable to the data approval process for major repairs and alterations including field approvals. The described target audience is flight standards district offices (FSDOs), aviation safety inspectors (ASIs), aircraft certification offices (ACOs), aviation safety engineers (ASEs), designees [designated engineering representatives (DERs), organization designation authorizations (ODAs), and designated airworthiness representatives (DARs)], and others engaged in the approval process for major repairs, major alterations and the data associated with each. For the purpose of this order, the use of the term "ASI" includes DAR function code 51 when performing work in accordance with Order 8100.17.
