I recently installed a Brackett air filter in my 1971 Cessna 150L, replacing the old paper filter type, but now wonder if I was correct to do so. I have heard reports of sand ingestion caused by increased vacuum in the carb heat box. I understand that foam rubber increases the resistance to air flow, thereby sucking more air around the butterfly (flapper) valve, which by its nature is not capable of providing a perfectly airtight seal. The foam air filter filters better than the paper, but what about increased dirt sneaking in through "the back door?" Am I worrying too much?
