William "Bill" Warfel, a founding member of the IALD, passed away on May 28 at the age of 84. Mr. Warfel earned his undergraduate degree in theater from Yale University and his MFA in stage lighting design from Yale School of Drama. He began his career teaching in the theater department at Dartmouth College, before working as a technical adviser for Century Lighting in New York City, during which time he contributed to several projects for the New York World's Fair, including the special-effects lighting for the iconic Unisphere.
