A Sporting Good Time:The use of lighting in the photography of up-and-coming athletes was the subject of an unusual essay by LD+A assistant editor David Reyes-Guerra. The article profiled the work of photographer David McCabe, whose pictures had appeared regularly in Glamour, Cosmo politanand Redbook. McCabe had just completed a shootfor Life entitled "The Class of the Class of 1983"-a montage of college freshman athletes possibly destined for greatness. His go-to source for the pictorial was an 800-W strobe lamp.
