It took 12 years from the international competition sponsored by the Italian government in 1998 to design a building in Rome for contemporary artworks, to the spring of 2010 when the first visitors entered MAXXI, the National Museum of XXI Century Arts. The award-winning design was submitted by Baghdad-born, London-based architect Zaha Hadid, and a team that included electrical engineers and designers, Max Fordham Consulting Engineers, led by senior partner, Henry Luker, and lighting designer Mark Hensman from GIA Equation Lighting.
