The concept: This 1988 building had a timeless art deco style somewhat out-dated by its lighting. A new scheme was needed for its lobby, with wing-shaped main entry, two vestibules and adjoining lift lobbies. In the new scheme, a series of large suspended custom rings link the spaces together. Over the curved reception desk hangs a semicircular cluster of five custom pendants whose symmetry and scale has been perfectly balanced. The custom luminaires match the stainless steel finishes of existing elements. Much modelling and mock-ups were used to ensure the proportions were right for such a large space took place.
